Goowy, new webmail–cool name and cool features

March 30th, 2006 · No Comments

I registered for a Goowy account a couple of weeks ago. It is a new e-mail provider that adds a bit more pizazz without being Yahoo front page scary. Goowy is Flash based and visually pleasing. I really like the “minis” feature, which reveals all the tools in one quick view such as; the calendar, to do list, RSS feeds/news and soon IM.

DC 2.0–a new look for the Nation’s Capital

March 28th, 2006 · No Comments

N Ten conference in Seattle

March 28th, 2006 · 1 Comment

I attended some interesting sessions about the future of e-mail and where the new battle lines are being drawn between anti-spam efforts and eliminating the free e-mail system we know today.

I met a Tech Soup founder, who mentioned their new project, Consultant Commons. I also met folks from Beaconfire Consulting and Free Range Graphics here in DC, to name just a few of the many DC area folks that attended. The conference has given me a fresh supply of links and software to burn the midnight oil looking through. (I just set up my linkedin account so if your on their let’s connect.)

I have to say though one of the biggest highlights was the first day’s keynote address by Guy Kawasaki, great speech.

Drilling for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is a sensitive subject (politically), no one wants to be the bad guy–I mean really there just isn’t too much pristine nature left in the World. So how can the oil hungry elites get their Bill passed, they tie the profits to Gulf coast reconstruction.

Jeff Sachs and the Millennium Village Project

March 16th, 2006 · No Comments

Jeff Sachs spoke at an event hosted by the Center for Global Development this week. Dr. Sachs is a development economist who has gained popularity in the media. In the Fall of 2005 Time Magazine had a cover story about his book, The End of Poverty. His popularity has extended into the realm of celebrity do-gooders such as Angelina Jolie, which has led in part to some criticism by others in the development community, but I imagine there is worse company to keep.
